Wheeler High School
The Wheeler High School PTSA sponsors several programs over the course of the year. It includes:
Expenditures for English classroom book sets to meet new Common Core Standards; music for newly formed Wheeler Full Orchestra; dishwasher for biology science equipment; I-Pads for speech, autistic, and other special needs students; materials for AP Economics; math posters; art supplies for school mural.
Sponsored Reflections contest with entries moving on to State PTA competition and one student winning at the National PTA level. Wheeler winners were given certificates and gift cards. Students can participate and show off their creative skills to compete for recognition and scholarships.
Sponsored Red Ribbon Week activities including balloon launch and drunk goggle games; Safe America Program; Accident Avoidance Defensive Driving Program; Risky Behaviors assembly for juniors and seniors before prom; volunteers for hearing and vision. To bring awareness of drug prevention through the week with different events.
Sponsored Wheeler students’ participation in the ECCC PTA Honoring Our Heroes Essay Contest and Wheeler winners were given certificates and gift cards. Wheeler was the only high school in the East Cobb County Council to submit entries. Students participate in different ways to honor some of their personal heroes.
A night to celebrate our very rich cultural tapestry through food, music, stories, visual and performing arts from our community.
Thanksgiving Drive that provided almost $700 worth of gift cards for turkeys/hams for Powers Ferry Elementary families in need; Brumby Holiday Tree that collected gifts for over 30 children at Brumby Elementary; collected Box Tops for Powers Ferry Elementary; hosted Teacher of the Year/Principal Luncheon for 35 East Cobb schools; Rally Foundation 4 Quarters for Research.
Sponsored fall and spring Saturday Clean-up Days including mulch purchase and spreading, trimming, weed kill, trash pick-up, and leaf pick-up.
Welcome Back Luncheon; sponsored the Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year in the East Cobber Parade; Open House Dinners; Holiday Luncheon; Mailbox Treats for staff; Staff Appreciation Week
No Place for Hate Program completed mural outside cafeteria; sponsored International Week activities for students to celebrate their country of origin; sponsored free multicultural cooking classes for staff /parents to enjoy recipes from many countries.
In addition to regular PTSA hospitality, hosted MLK Reception, Who’s Who Reception, centerpieces for Hall of Fame, and loaned equipment to other Wheeler organizations.
